One of the UAE’s most popular free calling apps, Botim in Dubai, has partnered with Al Etihad Payments (AEP), a subsidiary of the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE), to introduce a new person-to-person transfer service called Aani. This innovative platform, available through the Botim Ultra app, enables users to securely transfer money and make digital payments from number to number.
Key Features of Aani:
- Proxy payments using phone numbers instead of IBAN numbers
- QR-code-based payments
- Request to pay
- Split bills
The UAE is moving towards a cashless society, and Aani aims to facilitate this transition.
Botim, known as a UAE-approved Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) app, allows users to pay for government services and conduct international money transfers. Launched in the UAE in 2018, Botim was acquired by Astra Tech in 2023 and operates in 155 countries.
How to Use Aani on Botim
- Go to the ‘Botim Money’ page
- Click on ‘Send Money via Aani’
- Select ‘Activate now’
Aani will be linked to Botim’s Pay wallet, allowing users to send or receive cash from others who have activated Aani on the Apple Store and Google Pay platforms. Even if the recipient doesn’t have Aani, they can still receive money in their digital wallet.
Financial Institutions on the Aani App: Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Finance House, Al Fardan Exchange, National Bank of Fujairah, Emirates NBD, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Habib Bank Zurich, and Mashreq Bank.
