Monochrome Metropolis by Tom Butler

Why go? To see Burj Khalifa in art form
British artist Tom Butler will be presenting his latest exhibition, Monochrome Metropolis at Mestaria Gallery in Alserkal Avenue this month, but be quick as it ends on Sunday February 18. Through the use of line ink and graphite, Butler’s artworks will feature detailed contemporary representations of some of Dubai’s well-known cityscapes. Each piece has a special narrative, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in scenic landscapes. One of the highlights is All That Glitters – a striking drawing of Dubai’s famous Burj Khalifa.Free. Why go? For a glimpse into South African historyThis one is a short trip down the road to Sharjah, but is worth the journey. South African painter, writer, printmaker, curator and activist, Gavin Jantjes will be hosting his exhibition To Be Free! until Sunday March 10. The showcase explores his experiences in Cape Town from 1970 to the present, including his anti-apartheid activism until the mid-1980s. His work is inspired by the quest for artistic freedom.Free. In the eyes of our present, we hear Palestine

Why go: To learn more about Palestine
This special exhibition offers a glimpse into the challenges and hopes of the Palestinian community. It features the works of Palestinian artists, as well as artists from neighbouring countries. You can explore paintings, installations, videos and sculptures spanning from the 1950s to the present. Sheher, Prakriti, Devi

Why go: For an insight into India
Curated by Gauri Gill, in dialogue with Sabih Ahmed, Sheher, Prakriti, Devi showcases Gill’s ongoing documentation of urban, rural, domestic, communitarian, public and non-material spaces. The artwork draws inspiration from semi-urban spaces in India since 2003, in a series titled ‘Rememory’. Short Circuits by Vikram Divecha

Why go: To see the artist’s first solo exhibition
Vikram Divecha’s debut solo exhibition is coming to Dubai. Set to be hosted at Jameel Art Centre, the Beirut-born artist is inspired by planning, construction, demolition and maintenance that shape the cities of the UAE and beyond. You can expect to see playful and poetic site-specific installations, video works, photography and drawings that engage with the UAE’s urban and social histories. This talented artist has been exhibited regionally and internationally at the 57th Venice Biennale’s UAE National Pavilion UAE, the 13th Sharjah Biennial, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (New York), and more, so don’t miss out.Free.
