Introduction
Tired of being stuck in traffic during rush hour? Well, the new Dubai aerial taxis will soon provide a way to get over it – literally. An agreement was made on Sunday, February 11, for the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to introduce aerial taxis by the year 2026.
City-Wide Electric Aerial Taxi Service
This will see Dubai become the first city in the world to have a commercial, city-wide electric aerial taxi service and vertiport network. Aircraft will be able to carry a pilot and up to four passengers at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour. A journey between DXB and Palm Jumeirah should now take just 10 minutes compared to 45 minutes by car.
Collaboration for Success
Several different parties have come together to make the upcoming network a possibility with the RTA joining with the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, aerial taxi developers Joby Aviation, and vertiport provider Skyports Infrastructure.
Zero Carbon Emissions
The aerial taxis are said to operate with zero carbon emissions and should alleviate some traffic congestion on the ground.
