Introduction

The UAE has recently launched its new railway service, the Etihad Rail, which currently operates freight trains but has plans to introduce passenger services in the future. The railway will connect various Emirates and later extend to Oman, offering faster and more sustainable travel options.

Key Details of Etihad Rail

Passenger Train Stations: The first passenger train station will be located in Sakamkam, Fujairah, with plans to connect 11 cities and regions across the UAE, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.

Design and Features: The passenger trains are being designed by Spain’s CAF, with a capacity to seat over 400 passengers and run at speeds up to 200 kph. The trains will offer various seating classes, including first class, business class, and economy.

Travel Routes: Etihad Rail will significantly reduce commute times between Emirates, with travel times estimated at 50 minutes from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and from Dubai to Fujairah. The network will also extend to Oman, connecting Sohar to Abu Dhabi.

Amenities: The passenger trains will feature amenities such as infotainment systems, charging stations, food and beverages, and advanced air-conditioning systems for a comfortable journey.

Sustainability: Etihad Rail aims to reduce CO2 emissions and traffic congestion by shifting transport to rail, with plans to decrease road transport emissions by 21% by 2050.
