This week’s storms have resulted in the highest level of rainfall ever recorded in the history of the United Arab Emirates.
In light of this, Government workers will stay at home for a second consecutive day on Wednesday and the Government of Dubai has urged the private sector to work from home on Wednesday April 17.
So if your home Wi-Fi is playing up, or you simply need a change of scene to concentrate, here are some of the best remote working spots to check out across Dubai.
1762 Stripped
Exposed wood and metalwork make 1762 an aesthetically appealing place to grab a cup of Joe, and it’s little wonder it is so popular with the plug in and type away crowd. Can’t hang about all afternoon to close that overseas account? It’s also a slick place to grab a bite over a protracted business lunch. Chic, airy and with an ever-present buzz in the air, this is a hive of activity you’d do well to get familiar with.
Open daily 8am-midnight. JLT, 1762.ae (800 1762).
Boston Lane
Remote working was invented for days at Boston Lane. The unbelievably cute and quirky coffee stop in Al Quoz is an all-Australia affair we highly recommended saying g’day to soon. The food on the menu is suitably inspired by all things down under, while the coffee is some of the strongest in the business, kicks like a mule, and will have you powering through that inbox in no time.
Open daily 8am-7pm. Al Quoz, instagram.com/bostonlane.dubai (058 517 2131).
Friends Avenue
Pick any table at this waterfront spot in JLT, any time of day, and chances are there will be a screen perched atop it. The merry mood makes for a bustling setting, so if you consider yourself a creative type, this is where the juices will flow. And they’ll even find their way into your cup, with boosters and smoothies a crowd fave alongside hearty and healthy breakfasts to suit all kinds. Logging in now, boss.
Open daily 7am-10pm. Fortune Executive Tower, JLT, friendsavenue.ae (04 554 5813).
McGettigan’s JLT
Why go to the café when you can go to the pub. A hazardous approach to meeting deadline, but a more enjoyable office in all Dubai? We’ve yet to find one. A two-hour session at McGett’s heroic office away from the office will set you back Dhs499, but for that you and up to three colleagues get a sound-insulated set-up, all the required mod cons and eight litres of hops. You’ve got to try it once, right?
Open daily noon-10pm. McGettigan’s, Bonnington Hotel, JLT mcgettigans.com/the-office.
Time Out Market Dubai
Not a café, admittedly. But Time Out Market Dubai is right up there when it comes to remote working options. Open from midday in the week, it’s a dreamy spot to pitch up camp for an afternoon of productivity and outrageously good eats. There may be serious questions raised over your ability to keep your mind on your projects and not the incredible menu of eats in every direction, but we believe in you…
Open Sat-Wed noon-midnight, Thu-Fri noon-1am. Souk Al Bahar, Downtown Dubai, timeoutmarket.com/dubai.
