The UAE golden visa is the most powerful residency permit in the country.
It enables expats to live, work and study in the country without the need for a national sponsor, and you don’t need to renew it every couple of years. With a golden visa you only need to renew every 5 to 10 years.
Golden visas are no longer just for people with a high profile. Now, if you’re a good-hearted volunteer in the UAE, you could also be entitled to the sought-after document.
If you have dedicated at least five years or a total of 500 hours to voluntary humanitarian work, then you can qualify for a golden Visa.
Essentially, if you do good then the UAE will reward you for it. The work must be of a humanitarian nature and with a registered charity, so if you’ve been helping out following the recent storm in Dubai and you continue to volunteer then this could apply to you.
If you’re interested in volunteering then you can register with the Dubai Volunteering Centre or the national volunteering platform, which allows you to connect with different community and humanitarian causes in need of support in the city.

National Volunteer Program for Emergencies, Crises and Disasters
The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority has a base of volunteers it calls upon during difficult times. When it rains in the UAE, the aftermath can be devastating with flooding very likely across the board. Following the worst rainfall in the country’s history on Tuesday April 16, there has been an influx of support offered to those affected, as workers and volunteers donated their time in the storm relief effort. Other extreme weather, such as thick fog, earthquakes and sandstorms, often also require volunteers lend a hand.
UAE Red Crescent Authority
The UAE Red Crescent Authority aims to attract volunteers and drive support in the community at social, cultural and economic levels. The authority divides volunteers into three categories: student crescent for kids in elementary or secondary schools; university crescent comprising students enrolled in colleges, institutes and universities; and the last category for any other member of society.

Volunteers.ae
This is a portal to support volunteers across the UAE. It allows wannabe helpers to register themselves online in order for organisations to then search and find support relevant to their cause through the portal’s online register. Volunteers are entitled to recognition in terms of awards and volunteering hours, which can be added to build their online profile.
