Emirates Unveils Revamped Boeing 777 Aircraft Ahead of First Flight
Emirates has officially unveiled a stunning new design for its Boeing 777 aircraft, coinciding with its inaugural flight. This comprehensive overhaul marks the airline’s first complete nose-to-tail cabin refresh, showcasing a striking modernization of both the business class and premium economy class cabins. The revamped aircraft is set to take to the skies later today on a flight bound for Geneva.
The extensive refurbishment process spanned an impressive 37 days and required a staggering 18,000 man-hours of dedicated work to complete the round-the-clock retrofitting. A captivating timelapse video documenting this transformation vividly illustrates the significant changes made on board. The Emirates Boeing 777 commenced its refurbishment in early July, with the primary goal of incorporating a new premium economy cabin into the aircraft’s configuration.
As part of Emirates’ commitment to enhancing the customer experience, the airline plans to retrofit an additional 80 Boeing 777 aircraft, backed by an investment exceeding Dhs11 billion in upgraded products. Following the Geneva flight from Dubai, passengers can expect to see the new-look Boeing 777s deployed on routes to Tokyo Haneda and Brussels in the coming weeks. Furthermore, Emirates has revealed that this aircraft type will expand to serve more destinations, details of which will be disclosed in the near future.
The newly introduced premium economy cabin features 24 elegantly designed seats arranged in three rows with a 2-4-2 abreast layout, adorned with luxurious cream leather upholstery and tasteful wood paneling throughout the cabin. Each seat reclines up to 8 inches and is equipped with 6-way adjustable headrests, ensuring maximum comfort for passengers during their journey.
In the business class section, travelers will find 38 seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration. These seats boast padded headrests, personal mini-bars, dining and working tables, charging outlets, and more. The cabin also includes a chic bar area where passengers can enjoy a refreshing drink or snack mid-flight. Meanwhile, the economy class cabin showcases 256 seats dressed in a soothing palette of soft greys and blues. Each ergonomically designed seat features full leather headrests with flexible side panels, which can be adjusted vertically for optimal support.
To achieve the transformation of the first refurbished Boeing 777, Emirates utilized:
- 330 square meters of luxurious carpets
- 340 sheets of laminate for enhanced durability
- 8,000 square feet of premium leather for First, Business, and Premium Economy Class seats
- 800 meters of high-quality fabric for Economy Class seats
- 300 liters of paint for a fresh, vibrant look
In total, Emirates has earmarked 191 Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft for a complete makeover, marking the largest known retrofit initiative in the aviation industry in terms of scale and ambition. Once this comprehensive project is completed, the airline will proudly feature 8,104 next-generation Premium Economy seats, 1,894 refreshed First-Class suites, 11,182 upgraded Business Class seats, and 21,814 Economy Class seats across its fleet.
Currently, Emirates operates its refurbished aircraft to prominent destinations including New York JFK, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, London Heathrow, Sydney, Auckland, Christchurch, Melbourne, Singapore, Mumbai, Bangalore, Sao Paulo, Tokyo Narita, Osaka, Geneva, and Dubai.
