Dramatic Reduction in Black Points for Dubai Motorists

Dubai motorists will soon have an excellent opportunity to eliminate four troublesome black points from their driving records as part of a new government initiative. This special occasion, known as Accident Free Day, is set to take place on Monday, August 26, this year. Motorists can take advantage of this event to reduce their black points, which can lead to a driving ban if they accumulate more than 24 points on their licence.

Participating in this initiative is refreshingly simple. The Ministry of the Interior has announced that by signing up for a traffic safety pledge before the event and, importantly, adhering to it, drivers can have four black points removed from their driving licences. Brigadier Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, emphasized that this campaign aligns with the broader strategy of the ministry to enhance traffic safety and support the UAE government’s vision for safer roads.

He further explained that the campaign aims to cultivate a culture of responsible driving by educating motorists about essential vehicle safety practices, maintaining speed limits near schools, avoiding distractions such as mobile phones, adhering to traffic lanes, keeping a safe distance from other vehicles, prioritizing pedestrians, and yielding to emergency vehicles.

The Accident Free Day Traffic Pledge

The traffic pledge is straightforward, requiring only a bit of common sense to fulfill. Here’s the pledge in its entirety:

  • I will maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of me.
  • I will yield to pedestrians at crossings.
  • I will always wear my seatbelt.
  • I will adhere to the speed limits.
  • I will not use a handheld mobile phone while driving.
  • I will give way to emergency vehicles, police, public service vehicles, and official convoys.

As you can see, it’s quite simple, and with a little commitment, you can easily have those black points removed. If you manage to keep your pledge, which can be signed up for through the Ministry of Interior or Dubai Police, the black points will be eliminated on Saturday, September 14.
