As we approach the new month, many of us are trying to stretch the fuel we have left in our vehicles, all while hoping for a decrease in petrol prices. The United Arab Emirates federal government, through its petroleum firm Emarat, announces petrol prices on the last day of each month. After a slight increase in prices during the summer months, there is optimism for a reduction in petrol costs following the price dips observed in June and July.
The Current UAE Petrol and Diesel Prices:
- Super 98 Petrol: Dhs3.14 per litre, down from Dhs3.34 per litre in May.
- Special 95 Petrol: Dhs3.02 per litre, reduced from Dhs3.22 per litre in May.
- E-plus 91 Petrol: Dhs2.95 per litre, a decrease from Dhs3.15 per litre in May.
- Diesel: Dhs2.88 per litre, down from Dhs3.07 per litre in May.
These new rates will take effect from the start of September, beginning on Monday, September 1, 2024. As petrol prices continue to fluctuate, taxi fares in Dubai have also seen an increase, with the rate now set at Dhs2.14 per kilometre. With petrol prices trending downward, many are left wondering if taxi fares will follow suit.
Since 2015, the UAE has adjusted petrol prices each month in alignment with global market trends. In July 2022, petrol prices reached an unprecedented high, with Super 98 costing Dhs4.63 per litre. Notably, in 2023, petrol prices peaked in October before experiencing declines in November, December, and January.
