Embracing Summer in Dubai: A Recap
As we inch closer to the blissful days of alfresco breakfasts, lazy afternoons by the pool, and ice-cold sundowners, it’s hard not to feel the anticipation in the air. The peak summer season officially wrapped up in August, and while the sweltering heat has begun to ease, humidity still lingers, making it feel hotter than it actually is. This situation translates into sticky walks to the metro, foggy glasses, and that unwelcome sweat that seems to appear out of nowhere. Meanwhile, parts of the UAE, particularly the mountainous regions, have started to welcome the rain, much to their relief, but for those of us in Dubai, it has only contributed to the humidity and foggy weather.
In fact, the National Centre of Meteorology issued red fog alerts on Tuesday morning (September 10), advising drivers in Dubai to exercise caution during their commutes to work or school. #FogAlert #NCM
Summer Weather in Dubai: A Detailed Overview
The summer season in the UAE kicked off on June 21 and is expected to conclude on September 22. The first half of summer, which experts indicate wrapped up around mid-July, was relatively dry, with brisk winds flowing from the south, primarily from the desert regions of the UAE. These southern or eastern winds, known as the shamal, typically occur in June and July and can occasionally stir up dusty air. Although the heat was palpable, the drier conditions made it somewhat bearable.
However, as we transitioned into the third week of July, Dubai residents started to feel the effects of the humid season. Dr. Ahmed Habib, a spokesperson for the National Centre of Meteorology, shared insights with Time Out Dubai about how humidity levels during this period ranged between 80% and 95%. Fortunately, in mid-August, we experienced a brief respite as temperatures gradually decreased, and humidity levels dropped significantly. But now that we’re back to September, the humidity has returned with a vengeance. As Dr. Habib explained in August, “When the wind originates from the Arabian Gulf (to the north), rather than blowing up from the dry south, that’s when we witness a sudden spike in humidity.” Unless we are submerged in a cool pool, enduring the midday sun is not something we look forward to. However, there are still ways to enjoy the outdoors in Dubai while tackling the humidity.
Strategies to Enjoy the Outdoors in Dubai While Beating Humidity

By booking a table for their new Saturday brunch at Tapasake, you gain access to the world’s longest cantilevered swimming pool, located 100 meters high. Up here, you can enjoy a gentle breeze, making lounging on a sunbed an absolute delight, even during the hottest parts of the day.

2. Early Beach Ventures
Those who rise early are bound to reap the rewards at this time of year. If you’re up before breakfast, you’ll likely spot fellow early risers enjoying the shores of Jumeirah Beach. The ideal time to hit the beach is between 7:30 am and 9:00 am when the sun is shining, and humidity begins to dissipate. For a perfect spot, head to the 4,000-meter mark on the Jumeirah beach track, located just after the Dubai Offshore Sailing Track.
Location: Jumeirah Beach
3. Night Swimming Escapades
For those who prefer to swim after sunset, Dubai offers night swimming at three beaches: Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, and Umm Suqeim 1. Each beach is well-lit and supervised by lifeguards, making it a safe and enjoyable way to cool off at night.
Timing: Daily from sunset to sunrise. Locations: Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim 1
4. Breakfast in a Private Pod
For an intimate and unique dining experience, consider booking one of the stunning pods available for breakfast. These pods offer a delightful blend of indoor and outdoor ambiance, complete with air-conditioning and breathtaking views of JBR and Dubai Marina. With an enticing breakfast menu that includes options such as American-style pancakes and the Breakfast Platter, you can indulge without breaking the bank.

5. Embrace Nature
Finding shade is essential during these humid months. For a refreshing escape, Al Barari and Mushrif Park are two top destinations for experiencing Dubai’s natural greenery. At Mushrif Park, you can explore the tranquil Ghaf tree forest or challenge yourself on the obstacle course. The park also features public pools for a refreshing swim, with separate areas for men and women, and kiddie pools for the little ones.
