Fuel Price Update: October 2024
As we approach the end of September, it’s that time again when many of us start to consider our next visit to the gas station. The question on everyone’s mind is whether it would be wise to fill up now or hold off in anticipation of potential price changes. In the UAE, petrol and diesel prices are subject to monthly adjustments, which are officially announced by the federal government through its petroleum agency, Emarat, on the last day of each month.
This past summer saw a slight decrease in fuel prices, with reductions noted in both June and July. As we transition into October, often associated with the spooky season, there is a sense of optimism that this downward trend may continue.
The Current Fuel Prices in the UAE
- Super 98: Dhs2.90 per litre
- Special 95: Dhs2.78 per litre
- E-Plus 91: Dhs2.71 per litre
- Diesel: Dhs2.78 per litre
The revised prices will take effect at the start of the new month, specifically on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. As fuel prices fluctuate, taxi fares in Dubai also adjust accordingly, with the current rate being Dhs2.14 per kilometre. This raises the question: will taxi fares change in response to the latest fuel price adjustments?
Since the implementation of monthly price revisions in 2015, the UAE has aligned its petrol prices with global trends. July 2022 marked a record high for petrol prices, with Super 98 reaching Dhs4.63 per litre. Interestingly, in 2023, petrol prices peaked in October before experiencing a decline in subsequent months. The table below illustrates the price fluctuations observed throughout 2024.
