RTA Awards Contract for Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has officially granted a contract for the construction of the highly anticipated Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project. This initiative follows the visionary directives issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, as well as the Ruler of Dubai.
The project entails the construction of five expansive bridges, stretching a total of 5,000 meters, and will completely transform the existing roundabout to significantly enhance traffic flow in this bustling area. According to a recent announcement made by the RTA via their X account on Sunday, October 27, these substantial enhancements are projected to double the intersection’s capacity upon completion. Furthermore, the planned improvements aim to reduce travel delays from the current 12 minutes to an impressive 90 seconds, while also cutting the journey time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street from six minutes down to just one minute.
In alignment with the directives from H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the RTA has committed to this AED 696 million initiative, which stands as one of Dubai’s major infrastructure projects. The RTA tweeted:
“In response to the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, #RTA has awarded the contract for the AED 696 million Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, one of Dubai’s…”
This extensive project will also enhance traffic flow from 2nd December Street (serving Jumeirah and Al Satwa) to Al Majles Street, leading towards Al Mustaqbal Street, which serves the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Additionally, it will provide seamless connectivity from Sheikh Rashid Street to Deira.
Upon completion, this overhaul is expected to benefit approximately half a million road users daily. As a notable landmark in Dubai, the roundabout has long served as a critical junction, linking Sheikh Zayed Road with five major streets: Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Mustaqbal Street.
The Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project is being executed concurrently with another important road development initiative in the vicinity. Recently, the RTA also awarded the contract for the Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project in October 2024. This project aims to improve connectivity between Al Asayel Street and Al Khail Road via Al Nawras Street, as well as adding additional exits to both Oud Metha and Al Nawras Streets.
