Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Approves Major Road Development Plan for Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE as well as the Ruler of Dubai, has officially sanctioned an ambitious five-year internal roads initiative aimed at enhancing the road network throughout Dubai. Announced on Sunday, November 10, this comprehensive plan will involve the construction of 634 kilometers of new roads across the emirate, with a budget allocation of Dhs3.7 billion.

This initiative encompasses 21 major projects that will cater to various residential, commercial, and industrial zones, reflecting the anticipated growth of the city in the coming years. As part of the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, the initiative forecasts that Dubai’s population will reach approximately 5.8 million by 2040, compared to the current population of around 3.8 million.

In 2025, significant internal roads will be constructed in Nad El Sheba 3 and Al Amardi, serving 482 housing units that are part of the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment project.

Dubai has already witnessed several major roadwork transformations this year. For instance, just last week on Friday, November 8, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the completion of one of the largest road development projects in the city.

The Al Jamayel Street Development Project, previously known as Garn Al Sabkha, has now concluded its construction phase. This extensive project features four bridges that span a total of 2,874 meters and includes the development of roads that extend over seven kilometers in one of the city’s busiest areas. These new bridges are designed to accommodate up to 17,600 vehicles per hour, which is expected to significantly reduce travel times in the vicinity.

The newly constructed road now stretches for seven kilometers and comprises four lanes in each direction, boasting a capacity of approximately 16,000 vehicles per hour. Al Jamayel Street serves as a vital corridor that connects Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and the completion of this project is anticipated to greatly enhance traffic flow on these major thoroughfares.

The completed works will benefit a community of around 250,000 residents, with neighborhoods such as Jumeirah Lake Towers, The Gardens, Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens, Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Park, The Springs, Emirates Hills, Dubai Production City, and Jumeirah Golf Estates all benefiting from improved access via Al Jamayel Street.

Earlier this month, an additional multi-billion dirham plan was unveiled to transform some of Dubai’s busiest and most notorious roadways. The Main Roads Development Plan aims to revamp key routes including Latifa bint Hamdan Street, Al Mustaqbal Street, Trade Centre Roundabout, Al Fay, and Al Safa Street, ultimately benefiting over 6 million residents. This ambitious plan for 2024-2027 was reviewed by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.
