Exciting Celebrations Await for UAE National Day

The UAE National Day celebrations are fast approaching, and the anticipation is palpable! This year, a grand event will take place to commemorate this significant occasion, attended by the rulers of the seven emirates. Notably, the celebrations have been rebranded as Eid Al Etihad, moving away from the traditional Union Day title used in previous years. For those unfamiliar with the phrase, Etihad translates to “union,” perfectly encapsulating the essence of National Day, which celebrates the unity of the seven emirates.

This official change in name from Union Day to the Arabic Eid Al Etihad reflects the UAE’s rich identity, cultural heritage, collective strength, and profound national pride. This year marks the 53rd anniversary of the United Arab Emirates, and according to the official organisers of Eid Al Etihad, the nationwide celebrations promise to be more spectacular than ever before. We are also fortunate to enjoy a delightful four-day weekend, with official public holidays falling on Monday, December 2, and Tuesday, December 3.

While the exact venue for the grand festivities remains under wraps, Eid Al Etihad Zones will be established throughout all seven emirates, ensuring that the celebration reaches every corner of the UAE. These zones will feature an array of family-friendly activities, vibrant performances, and captivating displays.

This year’s Eid Al Etihad is taking a significant step toward sustainability. Organisers are encouraging residents to embrace eco-friendly practices during National Day celebrations by minimizing waste, promoting upcycling, and utilizing existing resources. Simple concepts like using reusable decorations, engaging in creative recycling, and implementing small, impactful actions can contribute to a greener celebration.

The goal is to create a holiday filled with unforgettable memories while minimizing environmental impact. As a delightful bonus, National Day this year falls on a Monday and Tuesday, allowing everyone to enjoy a four-day weekend filled with festivities or even a quick escape for a getaway.

Eisa Alsubousi, the Director of Strategic and Creative Affairs for the organising committee of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad Celebration, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to invite everyone to join in the joy of this historic moment as we celebrate the unification of the seven emirates.” He further emphasized that to support these celebrations, comprehensive guides have been developed to inspire and assist in sustainable preparations. Government entities, private companies, schools, and families are encouraged to download these resources and actively participate in marking this significant occasion.

The organisers added, “For instance, we can repurpose existing decorations to celebrate Eid Al Etihad.” The activities planned for the 53rd Eid Al Etihad will be accompanied by guides detailing how to participate sustainably, whether at home, school, or work. There is always a way to contribute consciously and leave a positive mark.
