The World’s Busiest International Airport Reaches New Heights
Dubai International Airport (DXB) has announced that it is on course for a record-breaking year, having welcomed over 68.6 million travelers in the first three quarters of 2024. This remarkable growth can be attributed to an increasing number of visitors choosing Dubai as their primary destination, rather than just a stopover for connecting flights.
This year, Dubai has positioned itself as a premier travel hotspot, with an array of attractions and events enticing travelers from around the globe. The much-anticipated reopening of Global Village, the return of the Dubai Shopping Festival, and the exciting lineup of New Year’s Eve celebrations are expected to significantly contribute to the surge in passenger numbers. With these compelling offerings, DXB anticipates that its annual traffic for 2024 could reach an impressive 91.9 million guests.
As the year comes to a close, DXB is projecting an influx of 23.2 million travelers between October and December, a peak season characterized by high direct traffic. This surge is driven by expatriates returning home for the holidays and tourists flocking to enjoy Dubai’s vibrant winter offerings. Despite facing challenges due to major disruptions from April storms, the airport remains on track for an unprecedented year.
In the third quarter alone, DXB managed over 111,300 flights, bringing the total flight movements for the first nine months of the year to 327,700—an impressive 6.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Griffiths concluded with a focus on maintaining exceptional service in the final quarter of the year, buoyed by Dubai’s vibrant winter calendar and its renowned attractions.
