One of the largest ticketing platforms in the Middle East, Platinumlist, has recently introduced an innovative ‘ethical resale’ feature. This new functionality encourages fans to sell their tickets directly to fellow fans, aiming to tackle the rampant price inflation often seen in the secondary market for concerts and events.
The newly launched Safe Tickets feature will be available for users across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman, allowing them to resell any ticket they have purchased through Platinumlist. This platform is well-known for offering access to a wide range of live events, including concerts, comedy shows, theatrical performances, and tourist attractions in Dubai.

Secondary ticket markets for major global events, such as Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, the Oasis reunion concert in the UK, and Coldplay’s performances in India, have seen exorbitant price increases from their original ticket costs. For instance, tickets for Coldplay’s shows in India have reportedly been listed for as much as $11,000. In response to this issue, Live Nation Middle East is taking proactive measures to ensure that ticket prices for the upcoming Abu Dhabi show remain reasonable.
To meet the rising demand for fair ticket pricing, Platinumlist’s fan-to-fan ticket resale system offers a secure platform for users to resell their tickets at reasonable prices. This approach helps to mitigate price inflation and enhances the overall experience for fans. Over the past three months, the ethical resale of tickets has been trialed on Platinumlist, resulting in an impressive 600 percent increase in user engagement.
Internal data from Platinumlist indicates that approximately 70 percent of fan-to-fan tickets are listed at face value, with an average mark-up of only 45 percent compared to the staggering 300 percent often seen in secondary markets.
Cosmin Ivan, the CEO of Platinumlist, expressed his enthusiasm for the feature’s success, stating: “Our early engagement metrics reveal a 600 percent growth in the usage of the new in-app ticket resale feature over the last three months. Platinumlist provides a secure platform that empowers users to resell tickets at the last minute when their plans change, connecting them with genuine fans and making previously inaccessible tickets much more affordable. It’s enriching to develop a product that brings value to everyone involved — the organizers, the attendees, and the artists.”
How Does It Work?
The fan-to-fan resale feature is designed to allow users to resell tickets for any event they have previously purchased through the platform. If you missed the initial sale for a particular event, you can still find tickets from other fans directly within the Platinumlist app. Existing ticket holders can easily list their tickets for resale, adjust pricing, or select different resale options through a user-friendly interface.
To ensure the security of ticket transactions, the Safe Tickets QR code system is employed. This system refreshes continuously to prevent fraud and eliminate any potential issues associated with outdated tickets.
