UAE National Day Long Weekend Travel Insights

The much-anticipated UAE National Day long weekend is just around the corner, and if you’re anything like us, you could certainly use some time off to unwind and explore. This period is one of the busiest travel times at Dubai International Airport (DXB), with nearly two million travelers expected to pass through its gates.

From Thursday, November 28, to Wednesday, December 4, Dubai International Airport, renowned as the world’s busiest international airport, is set to welcome over 1.9 million guests. On average, the airport will handle an impressive 271,000 passengers each day, with Saturday, November 30, expected to be the peak day of this hectic travel period.

In a recent announcement, DXB revealed its trajectory towards record-breaking annual traffic numbers, forecasting that more than 91 million travelers will transit through the airport this year. The final months of the year typically attract a surge of tourists to Dubai, thanks to the milder weather, the renowned Dubai Shopping Festival, and the vibrant New Year’s Eve celebrations that draw visitors to the emirate.

Moreover, with Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, December 3, designated as public holidays for Dubai and the entire UAE, many are seizing the opportunity for a spontaneous getaway.

Every year, the United Arab Emirates commemorates the anniversary of its national formation on December 2. A special Eid Al Etihad celebration will take place in Al Ain, marking the 53rd year since the establishment of the UAE. While the UAE National Day long weekend might not be the absolute busiest travel period of the year, arriving earlier than usual is advisable to minimize potential delays.

Earlier this year, the world’s busiest international airport issued travel alerts during peak travel times, such as in July when people escaped the summer heat, in September as families returned home ahead of the school year, and during the extended Eid Al Adha holiday break.

DXB Travel Tips

DXB Travel Tips

Dubai International Airport welcomed over 68 million guests in the first nine months of this year, highlighting its significance as a major travel hub.

  • For Emirates passengers, taking advantage of early and self-check-in facilities, including city check-in options, is highly recommended.
  • Passengers flying with flydubai are advised to arrive at least four hours before their scheduled departure.
  • Guests traveling with other airlines should aim to reach DXB no earlier than three hours prior to their flight, utilizing online check-in options where available to streamline the process.
  • It’s crucial to familiarize yourself with your airline’s baggage allowance and packing regulations to avoid last-minute surprises.
  • Prepare for security screening by being organized. Place metal items—such as watches, jewelry, mobile phones, coins, and belts—in your hand luggage, and adhere to the guidelines for carrying liquids, aerosols, and gels.
  • Families with children over the age of 12 can expedite the passport control process by using Smart Gates, facilitating a smoother journey.
