UAE Public Holidays for 2025 Announced: Plan Your Year Ahead

Are you dreaming about your next grand holiday? So are we! To assist you in planning your adventures for the year, the UAE has officially announced its public holidays for 2025. It seems we’ll have at least 12 public holidays this year, with the potential for an additional day off if Ramadan lasts a full 30 days, similar to how it was in 2024.

The early announcement regarding the UAE public holidays for 2025 was published last year in the UAE’s official gazette, following a comprehensive review of several federal laws within the constitution. This announcement introduced a new resolution under part two of the UAE Cabinet Resolution No.27 of 2024, which stipulates that if a public holiday coincides with a weekend, it can be rescheduled to provide us a little extra time off.

According to this resolution, when a holiday falls on a weekend, it “may be carried over by a Cabinet decision to the beginning or end of the week.” However, it’s important to note that this adjustment does not apply to Eid Al Fitr or Eid Al Adha. Therefore, if a public holiday lands on a Saturday or Sunday, it’s possible that an extra day off could be declared on the preceding Friday or the following Monday. For instance, had this resolution been applicable in 2024, we might have enjoyed a long weekend with a day off for the Islamic New Year, which fell on the weekend.

The review of laws regarding labor relations, human resources, and public holidays in the country led to this significant resolution. It is noteworthy that these public holidays are applicable to both the private and public sectors across the UAE. While the exact dates for some of the holidays will be determined closer to their occurrence—relying on moon sightings for several key dates—we do have a general idea of the occasions when we can take a break.

By strategically booking just 14 days of annual leave, you could enjoy an impressive total of 42 days away from work. It’s important to note that a public holiday cannot be carried forward if it coincides with another holiday or falls on a weekend. Fortunately, in 2025, there are no overlaps between Islamic holidays and those linked to the Gregorian calendar.

Moreover, local governments have the authority to approve any additional official holidays beyond those already outlined by the national cabinet.
