The Dubai Metro Blue Line: New Details Unveiled
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced exciting new developments regarding the much-anticipated Dubai Metro Blue Line. The project, with a staggering budget of Dhs20.5 billion, is set to transform public transportation in the emirate, and we now have a clearer picture of its completion date and specific route details.
Stretching an impressive 30 kilometers, the Blue Line will feature 14 stations, significantly enhancing transport connectivity between the bustling city center and some of the most densely populated areas in Dubai. This new line will incorporate a total of 15.5 kilometers of underground tracks and 14.5 kilometers of elevated tracks. Notably, it will also include Dubai Metro’s first-ever crossing over Dubai Creek, facilitated by a remarkable 1,300-meter bridge.
The route will encompass key areas, including Marsa, Dubai Creek, Festival City, and will serve multiple stations in International City, Al Rashidya, Al Warqa, Mirdif, Silicon Oasis, and Academic City. Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, has provided further insights into how this new line will integrate with the existing Green Line and Red Line.
There will be three crucial interchange stations along the route: Al Khor on the existing Green Line, Centrepoint on the Red Line, and an interchange station located at International City.
Two Distinct Routes on the Dubai Metro Blue Line
The RTA has awarded a substantial AED 20.5 billion contract for the Dubai Metro Blue Line project to a consortium consisting of three prominent construction firms: MAPA and Limak from Turkey, and the Chinese company CRRC. The project will encompass 30 kilometers and include 14 stations.
According to the RTA Director General, the Blue Line will consist of two primary routes that seamlessly connect to the broader Dubai Metro network. He stated, “The new line ensures seamless connectivity and integration between Dubai Metro’s Red and Green Lines through two distinct routes.”
- First Route: This route begins at Al Khor Interchange Station on the Green Line in Al Jaddaf. It will traverse through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Ras Al Khor before arriving at International City One, which serves as an interchange station. The route continues to International City Two and Three, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and concludes at Dubai Academic City. This 21-kilometer route will consist of 10 stations, incorporating a blend of underground and elevated tracks.
- Second Route: This route initiates at Centrepoint Interchange Station on the Red Line in Al Rashidiya. It will pass through Mirdif and Al Warqa before reaching the interchange station at International City One. This segment spans 9 kilometers and comprises four stations.
These additional details were disclosed following a press conference that announced the collaboration of leading construction firms from Turkey and China for the project’s development. Construction is scheduled to commence in April 2025.
Furthermore, part of the Blue Line project will feature a uniquely designed architectural train station at Dubai Creek Harbour, envisioned by the renowned firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, known for its iconic structures such as the Burj Khalifa, the Olympic Tower in New York, and the Sears Tower in Chicago.
