Evolution of Employment Patterns in Federal Government

Having a Modern Job: Embracing Flexibility and Innovation
Having a job no longer means a 9 to 6 trip to the office (thank goodness). It can mean working remotely, having flexible timings, and even different types of employment such as part-time gigs and temporary stints.

New Employment Framework
For those in government jobs, a new framework clarifying the employment patterns they’re entitled to has been announced. The General Framework for Employment Patterns and Flexible Work Types in Federal Government was revealed earlier this week. The framework has been introduced by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) and is based on the human resources law in the federal government. It is expected to make business smoother and more efficient for federal entities and help them retain talent.

Embracing Flexible Work Systems
It’s a response to the changing work environment, advanced tech, and new market trends, which have meant many institutions adopting flexible work systems. Employment conditions that have been specified in the document are:

  • Full-time
  • Part-time
  • Temporary work
  • Flexible work

Speaking of flexible work types – the framework lists out and offers guidelines for flexible working as well. The different types of flexible working conditions include:

  • Approved remote work from within the country
  • Remote work from outside the country
  • Hybrid work
  • Compressed work, where one works a shorter week.

The FAHR has confirmed that workshops aimed at HR Managers and officials in ministries and federal entities will be held to ensure its proper application. This framework supports the country’s ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision, which focuses on enhancing government performance.
